Hi! We are Ryan little Soleil and Brook. We built the first used shipping container home in Asheville, NC. Over a year we purchased and prepared our land. We cut, torched and welded 2 steel rectangular crates into a house shape. We hunted down recycled, refurbished, low cost and free construction materials. We mastered DIY. We built our first home!

  1. I am so very proud of you three! Soleil will enjoy this because her parents are enjoying the journey! Can’t wait to come home and see all three of you and help!

  2. It was so nice to see you and Soleil yesterday. I’ve read all your posts and you’ve totally inspired me to think more creatively (and positively) about our own living situation. We’re rooting for you and wish you all the best in this exciting endeavor 🙂

  3. Good luck. I have a fair idea about what is in front of you. My tip for you is that we get used to normal quite quickly. No aircon, electricity, water or dry logs for the stove can become normal. Even our dog that hated us for moving into two containers came round and now loves it. Cheers Paul

  4. new to this blog but will be following now! Wife and I are in Raleigh, and we love Asheville. We’d like to do something similar one day, and we’re interested in how your plan comes out financially, design-wise, and comfort-wise. Great blog! -Shu

  5. I just came across your blog yesterday and am so excited to watch the documentary and see how it all turned out! You are an inspiration to so many and it takes a lot of guts to do what you did. Best of luck and thanks for sharing your journey with us!
